Four decisions, then it is just shopping

Everything on this page follows from these four. Make them in order and the rest of the list reads itself.

  1. Your routeBasic FPV, or advanced autonomy. Same flight controller either way. The GPS and the airspeed sensor differ.
  2. Your battery voltage6S or 4S. It sets the motor windings and the ESC ratings.
  3. Your lift prop8-inch bi-blade, or 7-inch tri-blade. It sets the lift motor KV.
  4. Your FPV systemDigital, analogue, or none at all. Two nose cones are in the kit.

Pick your route

Both routes share the airframe, motors, ESCs, battery, servos and radio. The difference is the avionics.

Airframe materials

Filament and carbon. Order these on day one. A full airframe takes days of printer time and the parts take about as long to arrive, so the two happen in parallel.

Starter build
PLA Aero and PETG. Basic, lighter. LW-PLA is the alternative.
Performance build
ABS-GF and PETG-CF. Engineering-grade, heavier, and it needs an enclosure.
Heat resistant build
ASA Aero and PETG. Difficult to print, light, heat resistant.

VTOL lift propulsion

Four motors, one 4-in-1 ESC, and a matched set of props with a spare.

Lift motors

Class
2807-class brushless, 2806.5 to 3008 stators. Four identical.
Variants
By battery and by prop. Lower KV swings the 8-inch bi-blade, higher KV the 7-inch tri-blade.

Lift ESC

Class
One 4-in-1 ESC, 45 A or more per channel, 32-bit firmware (BLHeli_32 or AM32) so DShot300 and ESC telemetry work.
Variants
The board must be rated for your battery. All four below cover 6S, two go to 8S.
Branded offerings
TBS Lucid 60A 4-in-1 AM32 (3 to 8S, our pick), T-Motor F60A Mini 4-in-1 AM32 (3 to 8S), Hobbywing XRotor Micro 60A 4-in-1 BLHeli_32 (3 to 6S), iFlight BLITZ E55 4-in-1 BLHeli_32 (2 to 6S).

Lift propellers

Class
8-inch bi-blade with the baseline motors, or 7-inch tri-blade with the higher-KV motors.
Branded offerings
8-inch: Gemfan F8041 folding 2-blade (8041F-2), HQProp 8x5 bi-blade. 7-inch: Gemfan Hurricane 7043 3-blade.

Buy a matched CW and CCW set, plus at least one spare set. Folding blades trail back once the lift motors stop in forward flight, which cuts drag.

06

Pusher propulsion

One motor, one ESC, one propeller, and a spare propeller.

Pusher motor

Class
3115-class brushless, one.
Variants
640KV for 6S builds, 900KV for 4S builds. Both swing the same 12x8 prop.
Branded offerings
T-Motor VELOX V3115 (640KV and 900KV), BrotherHobby Tornado T5 3115 Pro (640KV and 900KV), EMAX ECO II 3115 (640KV, rated 6S and up, so 6S builds only).

Pusher ESC

Class
One single ESC, 50 A continuous or more, rated for your battery voltage. PWM is fine here. The pusher does not need DShot.
Branded offerings
TBS Lucid 90A single AM32 (3 to 12S, 70 A continuous, our pick), Hobbywing Skywalker 60A V2 (2 to 6S), Hobbywing Skywalker 50A V2 Plus (3 to 6S), T-Motor AT 55A (2 to 6S).

Pusher propeller

Class
APC 12x8 Thin Electric. The balanced all-rounder for this airframe.
Variants
12x8E (standard rotation) or 12x8EP (pusher rotation). Pick the one that matches the direction your motor will turn. Buy a spare.
07

Battery and connector

One flight pack, and the one connection that can destroy everything downstream.

Class
One flight pack, 50 A continuous discharge or more, XT60 connector.
BuildLiPo21700 Li-ion
6S6S 4500 to 5000 mAhup to 6S2P 21700 pack

Branded offerings
LiPo from CNHL, Tattu or GNB in the sizes above. Li-ion packs built from Molicel P45B or Samsung 40T cells.
08

Elevon servos and linkage

Two servos, one per elevon, and the rods that connect them.

Class
Two 9 g or 12 g metal-gear servos, one per elevon. The servo bay fits both sizes.
Branded offerings
EMAX ES08MD II (12 g, digital, our pick), EMAX ES08MA II (12 g, analogue), JX PDI-1109MG (9 to 10 g, digital), Corona DS-929MG (12.5 g, digital).
Linkage
One adjustable pushrod and linkage-stopper set. Use the arms supplied with the servo and a control horn of your choice, bought or printed. The manual, step 4.3, shows the fitting.
09

Avionics

The flight controller, what it needs to know where it is, and the link that carries both control and telemetry.

Flight controller

Class
A wing-style controller with onboard power regulation, so no separate BEC and no power distribution board. It needs four outputs in one DShot-capable group for the lift motors, and three more for the pusher and servos. DShot is highly recommended but not mandatory. PWM can also work for lift motors.
Variants
H7 wing controller, one family, for both routes.
Branded offerings
iFlight BLITZ Wing H743, Holybro Kakute H743-Wing, TBS Lucid H7 Wing, MicoAir743 V2.

TBS Lucid H7 WingTBS_LUCID_H7_WING3 to 12S
MicoAir743 V2MicoAir743v2Up to 6S

GPS

Class
One M10-generation GPS with compass, on a UART. The advanced route may fit two, where the board has the ports.
Branded offerings
GEPRC GEP-M1025 series, Matek M10Q-5883, TBS M10 GPS Glonass, Holybro M10 GPS V2.

10

FPV video

Optional, and the nose is built to take more than one answer.

Class
Any camera and video transmitter that fit the nose cone. Two nose cones are in the kit, for 15 mm and 21 mm cameras, plus a STEP file if yours is neither.
Branded offerings

Before you order

Nine things worth checking twice. Every one of them is a mistake somebody has already made.

The list is free. The aircraft is the kit.

This page tells you what to buy. The kit tells you what to do with it: the full STL pack, the assembly manual, the print profile and a starter ArduPilot configuration, in your hangar for good.
